We’ve finally seen the effects of Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle tracking South-East over the Coral Sea off Queensland. Down South here in Sydney, some solid swell built suddenly overnight early on in the week.

Monday had an ominous start to the day. Later that morning the sun popped and the scenes down in Manly were pretty wild! Only a handful of surfers made it out the back through the hefty white wash along the beach. It was rough out there. A Southerly wind had kicked in adding to the chop, but a few good ones still made their way through if you were lucky!

The Bower and Winki later that day saw some action too! Some solid sets wrapping around the headland made it a good option that day. Always love shooting this spot from up high on the headland when it’s on .

Time to get amongst the action in the water out at The Bower. I’ve always loved jumping into the big, gnarly stuff out there when it’s on! There’s something about a solid 6ft+ wave breaking at you onto a shallow rock shelf that really gets the blood pumping.

The swim was a bit of a sh*t fight! A massive rain squall closed in right as I was swimming out to Winki. It made it a challenge to frame up but also great fun to be amongst it as nature is throwing everything at you.

Surf was messy, choppy, and wild while the current made it a constant swim to hold a decent position, but I loved every minute of it and the contrast of images from these big volumes of water to the softer rain drops falling out to sea.

As always, thanks for checking out this weeks post and following my work! All photographs are available as prints. Hit the link below to browse collections and read more posts. If you don’t see what you’re after here on my website just shoot me a message and we’ll get it organised for you.

Cheers,
