Escaping the crowds on Sydney's beaches, we drove North for a few days to explore the Mid-North coast of NSW.

Pulling into the cruisy surf town of Crescent Head late, we tucked ourselves away into a crack in the headland for the night. There's nothing quite like waking up to the colours of dawn and early morning light streaking along the coastline, all from the comfort of your bed parked right there on the sand.

After an early swim it was time for a coffee. If you are in town I highly recommend the local bakery. Best part of our morning coffee was wacthing this as a backdrop...

Crescent Head point is ideal for long boarders. If you're lucky you can score a wave that will carry you 400m along this scenic headland.

It wasn't long before I had to get out there myself. Easily one of my favourite surf breaks in NSW.

Continuing North, we drove onto Killick Beach. If you have a car capable of doing so and a valid beach pass, definitely take the beaches instead of the road. We had kilometres of beach stretching out ahead of us, and our pick of spots to park up for the day.

At the North end of Killick Beach, you find Hat Head national park. A tropical looking section of coastline with pristine water and pandanas trees. Unfortunately it's a popular spot for caravan holiday makers, but there is still plenty of coast to get away from it all.

After exploring Hat Head we were back onto Killick Beach for the afternoon and found a spot to camp surrounded by sand dunes.

The next morning we continued North to South-West Rocks. It was a laidback Sunday morning before heading back down to Sydney. In this coastal town the locals were out and hitting the beach swimming in the blue waters of the bay.
